Family physician and AAOSH board member Dr. Ellie Campbell explains the importance of Oral Systemic Health.
Video transcription:
“Hey everybody, I am Dr. Ellie Campbell. I'm a family physician and I'm board-certified in integrative medicine as well. I'm a member of the board of directors of the American Academy of Oral Systemic Health, also known as AAOSH. I'm an expert in interdisciplinary health and I'm an expert in the oral-systemic connection. As a BaleDoneen certified practitioner, I believe that no cardiovascular prevention program is complete without a dentist and a hygienist on the team. And so I understand that I'm unique and that there's not that many practitioners out here who are doing what I do. So if you're an MD, a DO, a nurse practitioner, or PA, and you're taking care of primary care patients, you must have a relationship with a dentist. With many dentists, because these people will help save the lives of your patients. When we recognize the connection that the mouth has to the rest of the body, we have an opportunity to change lives in unimaginable ways. Whether that's periodontal disease, carries, tongue-tied, sleep apnea, nitric oxide. There are so many ways the mouth is connected to the rest of the body and so many opportunities for us as practitioners to make a difference in the lives of our patients. So I implore you to be involved in dental meetings, including things like here, the Chicago Midwinter Conference, but also the upcoming American Academy of Oral Systemic Health, AAOSH'S August meeting in Minneapolis. Please come learn about the ways the mouth and the rest of the body are connected. Your patients will be ever grateful and your outcomes will be far superior. This is Dr. Ellie Campbell. Thank you for listening.”
