We face a severe health crisis—a much larger pandemic than Covid19! Poor diet, lack of exercise, excessive weight, high blood pressure, diabetes, smoking, stress, periodontal and periapical oral disease, breathing disordered sleep, and GERD are co-morbidities that put every one of us at risk in a viral world. Oral health is directly related to complete health—the oral-systemic connection—so we have to stand on the frontlines fighting this health crisis. We do so by developing a new model that integrates dentistry and medicine—integrative dental medicine (IDM). This model results in both healthier patients and practices. Dr Witt Wilkerson, DMD, Lora Hooper, RDH, and Dr Gina Pritchard, DNP, will discuss their years of research and clinical implementation, which is the subject of Witt’s best-selling book, The Shift, the Dramatic Movement Toward Health Centered Dentistry.
